In a bizarre collaboration that defies conventional expectations, the game developer has revealed an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, providing complimentary bonus story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Uncovered

According to the official announcement, "A strange encounter draws characters Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where hints of prohibited practices and monstrous transformations reverberate through the darkness." The narrative features a "unusually dressed woman named Ada" who assigns the duo with traveling into the Crystal Cave—a key location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her companion from a secret sect.

The mission centers on "strange tests and a monstrous enemy" and is open to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Iconic Settings and Transformations

The trailer features the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was formerly where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through ages. The trailer concludes with a striking sequence showing a character, probably the captive, morphing into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.

Exclusive Items and Additional Features

Players who successfully complete the quest will receive an unique katana together with multiple artifacts concealed throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, offering:

• Mikasa attire for Naoe
• Unique implements
• Survey Corps vehicle

Latest Free Story Update

This update also introduces the game's latest complimentary story content, titled "A Puzzlement." This playful adventure pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature skills: Naoe reveals a performative version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-fatal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "A Puzzlement" also features a original environmental puzzle that may finally explain some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

Previous Anime Partnerships

This represents hardly the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with popular anime properties. The series previously included a 2020 cross-promotional story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla subtly included a quest that clearly echoed the popular series One-Punch Man.
