The Princess of Wales's Annual Christmas Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.
The 1,600 guests will enjoy a blend of carols, music and readings from performers including award-winning actors.
Centred Around Kindness and Compassion
The focus of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.
Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a message before the festive gathering.
Carefully Paced Reappearance
The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Music and Opportunity
Those coming to the Abbey can listen to budding artists aided by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of instrumental training.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at the concert.
"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.
Generations Gathering
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.
Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for local food charities.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.
Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
